Radiology information system (RIS) is a networked software application/module, which is used in storing, manipulating, and distributing patient radiological data and related images. RIS comprises a patient tracking and scheduling system, a result reporting, and an image tracking system. It is used for patient registration and patient scheduling, patient list management, radiology department workflow management, request and document scanning, result entry, result delivery including faxing and e-mailing of clinical reports, patient tracking, along with modality and material management. These systems are used to automate various operations and services of the radiology department.

Europe accounted for a share of 23.4% of the radiology information systems market globally, in 2013. The market was valued at $102 million in 2012 that is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.9% from 2013 to 2018.

RIS adoptions have improved among healthcare providers, the reason being that it offers a wide range of facilities in a single application. Growing trends towards an integration of RIS into HIS and PACS is what drives the market. Moreover, users also prefer these integrated solutions as they improve the efficiency of systems.

RIS helps keep track of the patient from the time of admission till the time of discharge. This is achieved by recording all the radiological procedures and medication carried out on the patient. The system takes into consideration data related to the patients’ past medical history, the present medication, and future appointments.

This market is segmented and forecasted on the basis of two types-Integrated radiology information system and Standalone radiology information system. The integrated radiology information system accounts for the largest share of the European radiology information system market and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.9% from 2013 to 2018. On the basis of components, the market is segmented into hardware, software, and services, while the deployments are on-premise, cloud-based, and web-based. The market is further segmented and forecasted on the basis of major countries, such as the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. The market is also segmented and analyzed further on the basis of application and end-users.

The report provides an extensive competitive landscape of companies that operate in this market. The key players of the market that have been covered in the report are Allscripts, Cerner Corporation, Epic System, GE, Mckesson Corporation, Philips, and Siemens AG. This report also includes the market share, value chain analysis, and market metrics such as drivers, restraints, and upcoming opportunities in the market.
