The purpose of this report is to cover the definition, description, and forecast of the Asia-Pacific flue gas desulfurization (FGD) market. The report involves a deep dive analysis of the market segmentation, which is based on the types and applications of flue gas desulfurization. The report also gives profound insights into the competitive landscape of the market through a strategic analysis of the key participants in the market. The Asia-Pacific flue gas desulfurization (FGD) market, in terms of types of FGD has been segmented into wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD) and dry flue gas desulfurization (FGD).

The Asia-Pacific flue gas desulphurization (FGD) market constitutes 60.3% of the global flue gas desulphurization (FGD) market, and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.6% from 2014 to 2019. The large share is attributed to the rising government regulations regarding stringent emissions. These rigid regulations force industry players to install and upgrade flue gas desulphurization (FGD) systems in their manufacturing plants. This thereby influences the growth of flue gas desulphurization (FGD) market.

Coal is the most reliable source of energy, and is considered a key driver to influence the growth of flue gas desulphurization (FGD) market. Coal constitutes a major share in terms of sources of energy generation, as more than 40% of the electricity is generated from coal. Coal fired power plants release a large amount of sulphur and particulate matter. When coal is burned to generate electricity, a large amount of toxic chemicals are released into the environment. The sulphur dioxide released from coal-burning power plants contributes to the formation of particulate pollution which includes fly ash. This fly ash is used as a by-product in Portland cement in road and brick constructions.

The end users of FGD market include power generation, cement manufacturing, chemical, iron and steel and other industries. The power generation industry and cement manufacturing are the maximum users of FGD systems due to the high grade by-products that are generated during the flue gas treatment process.

The report also provides a detailed competitive landscape of companies operating in this market. Segment and country-specific company shares, news & deals, M&As, contracts and agreements, joint ventures, new technologies developed by the companies and geographical  and business expansions have also been profiled in the report. The players mainly operating in the Asia-Pacific market are Alstom SA (Levallois-Perret, France), Marsulex Environmental Technologies (Pennsylvania (U.S.), China Environment Ltd. (Long Yan City, Fujian Province), Thermax (Pune, India), and FLSMIDTH & CO. A/S (Copenhagen, Denmark).

The flue gas desulfurization (FGD) plant removes sulphur oxides (SOX) from the flue gas before it is released into the atmosphere. This reduces the impact on environment. The coal-fired power plant tends to have high sulphur content so burning it causes sulphur dioxide to be released. The FGD technology removes this from emissions. FGD systems are also used to reduce SO2 emissions from process plants such as smelters, acid plants, refineries, and pulp and paper mills.

The Asia-Pacific region is expected to hold a major market for FGD as the regulations for emission of SOX will be more stringent in coming years. The FGD technology is based on a chemical reaction that occurs when the warm exhaust gases from the industries come in contact with limestone. This reaction removes 92% of the sulphur dioxide from the flue gas and converts the limestone into calcium sulphite.

The Asia-Pacific Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) market is expected to witness substantial growth, the main reason being that the use of coal in electricity generation. When coal is burned to generate electricity, a large amount of toxic chemicals are released into the environment. This forces the players to install FGD systems in manufacturing units.

This report estimates the flue gas desulfurization market in terms of type, application, and geography. The flue gas desulfurization market in Asia-Pacific was valued at $9,173.1 million in 2014, and is expected to reach $12,600.8 million by 2019.The market is expected to reach a CAGR of 6.6% from 2014 to 2019. The China market has held a major share of approximately 83.8% in the Asia-Pacific flue gas desulfurization market, and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.4% from 2014 to 2019.

An in-depth market share analysis, by revenue, of the top companies is included in the report. These numbers are arrived at, on the basis of key facts, annual financial information from SEC filings, annual reports and interviews with industry experts and key opinion leaders, such as CEOs, directors, and marketing executives.
