Nitrogen Oxides belong to the family of poisonous, highly reactive gases. These gases form when fuel is burned at high temperature. NOX is emitted by industrial sources, such as power plants, industrial boilers, and turbines. NOX is a strong oxidizing agent and plays a key role in the atmospheric reactions with volatile organic compounds (VOC) that produce ozone (smog) in the presence of sunlight. The NOx control systems are used to reduce the hazardous effect of nitrogen oxides in the air. The techniques used to reduce the NOx emission are Selective Catalytic Reduction and Selective Non Catalytic Reduction. SCR can deliver near-zero emissions of NOX, which can avoid acid rain.
