Supercritical boilers are latest in technology and industry than subcritical boilers. Supercritical technology is accepted to improve efficiency, and reduce coal use and GHG emission. Most plants that were newly constructed and those that are beneath construction are supercritical in nature. The plants with advanced efficiency necessitate supercritical boilers. They have certain advantages such as reduced coal consumption and release of NOx, SO2, particulates, and waste per MWh produced.

Boilers operating at high steam temperatures (above 540°C), decomposition becomes a matter. Coal with high corrosion is less suited for its process and should be evaded when high steam temperature is used. Due to the more composite design of supercritical boilers, the necessities on OEM routines are higher than a subcritical boiler. The requirement for instrumentation, quality water, and control equipment is high. The new plants that were built in Europe and Asia use supercritical boiler‐turbine technology, in which China has made this a standard on all new plants of 600 MW and more.

The report examines the supercritical boiler market in terms of application and geography. Market share analysis on basis of revenue, details of the top companies is included in the report. The market share analysis of these key players is arrived based on key facts, annual financial information, and interviews with key opinion leaders such as CEOs, Directors, and marketing executives. The key players of the market covered in the report are Alstom (France), Babcock & Wilcox (U.S.), Dongfang Electric Corporation Ltd. (China), Harbin Electric Company (China), and others.
