Plastics require certain material to give them varied desired properties to serve multiple purposes. Plasticizers are added to plastics to give them fluidity or flexibility. The global plasticizer market is divided into three categories, namely low phthalates, high-phthalates, and non-phthalates.

DINP plasticizer, a high phthalate, is the most commonly used plasticizer worldwide currently, after DOP (Di-Octyl Phthalate). It is extensively used in PVC, toys, electrical insulation, vinyl flooring, and medical devices, among others. Nearly 77% of the total DINP plasticizer demand was for the three major application segments in 2014, namely PVC, toys, and electrical insulation.

The global plasticizers market is witnessing decent growth on account of increasing demand from end-user industries. However, the global diisononyl phthalate plasticizer market is having fast growth on account of increasing popularity of high-phthalates, non-phthalates and bio based plasticizer.

The global diisononyl phthalate plasticizer market growth is primarily driven by the trends in the European and North American regions, where DOP plasticizer is being replaced by non-phthalates and high-phthalates such as DOTP, DINP, and DIDP. REACH has restricted the use of DOP plasticizers in the European region, thereby increasing the demand for DINP plasticizers in the region.

The Asia-Pacific region is the largest market for DINP plasticizers, globally, owing to various factos, such as high DINP plasticizer demand from the application markets in the region; cheap labor; low production cost; and ease of business. A considerable amount of investments has been made by various market players to serve the application industries in the near future. The Asia-Pacific market accounted for nearly 59% of the global consumption in 2014. The region is further expected to witness high growth in the near future, mainly due to the high growth potential of the plastic & rubber and healthcare industries in China, India, and other emerging countries in the region.

This study basically aims to estimate the global market for DINP plasticizers over the forecat period, 2014 to 2019. Furthermore, this market research study provides a detailed qualitative and quantitative analysis of the global diisononyl phthalate plasticizer market. Various secondary sources such as news articles, directories, industry journals, and databases have been used to identify and collect information useful for this extensive commercial study of the global diisononyl phthalate plasticizer market. Plasticizers are low volatile organic substances that are added to plastic compounds to enhance their flexibility, extensibility, and processability. DINP plasticizers belong to the high-phthalate group of plasticizers. DINP is a colorless and odorless oily liquid; free of foreign materials; marginally soluble in water (0.285mg/L at 24 C), but soluble in alcohols, hexane, and so on. It is miscible and compatible with all the monomeric plasticizers of PVC compounding. It is extensively used in PVC, toys, electrical insulation, vinyl flooring, and medical devices, among others. Nearly 77% of the total DINP plasticizer demand was for the three major application segments in 2014, namely PVC, toys, and electrical insulation.

DINP is monomeric primary plasticizers of medium molecular weight and fine performance. It has been developed to fulfil the need for an economical plasticizer in formulation, which requires very low volatility and good permanence characteristics. This product is widely used in vinylic compounds including wires, cables and plastisols.

DOP currently represents the largest share globally in the overall plasticizers market; however, in recent years, DOP has been scrutinized by regulatory authorities across the globe. The consumption trends of DOP have drastically declined, especially in Europe and North America. Furthermore, DOP has been included in the EU Candidate List and is likely to be phased out by 2015, under the EU chemical regulation program, REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals). Thus, most companies are switching production to DINP, DOTP, and DIDP plasticizers, as these are non-phthalates and high-phthalates. The huge decline in demand for DOP plasticizers has further driven the demand for DINP plasticizers across all application segments, globally.

The focus in the plasticizer industry is on developing environment-friendly alternatives. The on-going and continuous emphasis on certain harmful phthalates has shifted the demand to alternatives, such as DOTP, DINP, and other phthalate-free alternatives. The past few years have also witnessed a number of non-phthalate and high-phthalate capacity expansions and new introductions by market players. There are various projects planned in Europe and Asia-Pacific to serve the growing demand for environment-friendly plasticizers with capability to compete with traditional plasticizers on various parameters, such as price and performance. The phthalate-free movement is not only driven by continuous legislative limitations on phthalates; the good availability at competitive prices has been pushing the demand of these alternatives. Moreover, market players prefer high phthalates & non-phthalates to harmful low phthalates, which is why the demand for DINP has been growing significantly in recent years.

The global diisononyl phthalate plasticizer market is expected to reach a value of $6,042.8 million by 2019, from $4,285.2 million in 2014, at a CAGR of 7.1% from 2014 to 2019. The rising demand for DINP plasticizer from various end-use industries, such as construction, packaging, medical devices, and consumer goods, are contributing to the growth of the DINP plasticizer market across the globe.

The global diisononyl phthalate plasticizer market has also been classified based on different applications. The key applications of this market have been identified as PVC, toys, electrical insulation, vinyl flooring, and medical devices, among others. The PVC, toys, and electrical insulation application segments accounted for nearly 77% of the global market demand in 2014.

The key players in the global DINP plasticizer market are UPC Technology Corporation (Taiwan), Nan Ya Corporation (Taiwan), Aekyung Petrochemical (Korea), Sandung Qilu (China), Eastman Chemical Company (U.S.), LG Chem (Korea), KLJ Group (India), and Guandong Chunda Chemical Industry (China), among others.
