Level sensors are used to detect the level of liquids, granular materials, powders, and other such substances. It can be either a continuous or a point value. Level sensors are mainly classified into contact level sensors and non-contact level sensors. Contact level sensors are further classified as magnetostrictive level sensors, vibratory probe level sensors, hydrostatic level sensors, magnetic and mechanical float sensors, pneumatic level sensors, guided wave level sensors, rotating paddle level sensors, resistive chain level sensors, and weight and chain level sensors. Non-contact sensors include capacitance level sensors, conductivity level sensors, ultrasonic level sensors, microwave/radar level sensors, air bubbler level sensors, optical level sensors, laser level sensors, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) level sensors, and others such as nuclear, load-cells, and nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS).

North America holds the largest share in the global level sensor market, and is expected to record revenue of $1,160.0 million by 2018, at an estimated CAGR of 5.3% from 2013 to 2018. Governments in this region play a significant role in the growth of the level sensor market for the industrial and power sector. Stringent regulations have been laid down by governments, owing to the global climate convention held at Copenhagen, Denmark, to control carbon emissions in leading North American countries. This has been brought into effect to support the conservation of the environment.

ABB Ltd. (Switzerland), AMETEK, Inc. (U.S.), APG, Inc. (U.S.), BinMaster Inc. (U.S.), Eaton Corporation PLC (U.S.), Emerson Electric Company (U.S.), Endress+Hauser (Switzerland), First Sensor AG (Germany), Gems™ Sensors & Controls (U.S.), Georg Fischer AG (Germany), Gill Sensors(U.K.), Honeywell Sensing & Controls(U.S.), ifm electronic GmbH (Germany), Krohne Messtechnik GmbH (Germany), Specialities, Inc.
