A thin-film photovoltaic cell (TFPV) is a type of solar cell that is made by depositing one or more thin film (TF) of photovoltaic material on a substrate, such as plastic, glass, or metal. The film thickness varies from a few nanometers (nm) to tens of micrometers (µm), which is much thinner than the conventional crystalline silicon solar cell that uses silicon wafers of up to 200 µm. This allows thin film cells to be of lower weight, flexible, less drag, and limited resistance to foot traffic.

Renewable energy sources, such as solar photovoltaic technologies are gaining importance due to changing climate conditions and rising energy demand. Thin film photovoltaic is the second generation of photovoltaic, which is gaining importance because of optimum efficiency at low cost. These factors, along with increasing government support and shorter energy payback time, are driving the thin film photovoltaic market in Latin America.

Latin America is one of the growing markets in thin film photovoltaic (PV) market. Silicon shortage and the growing demand for PV modules are some of the factors fueling the growth in thin-film PV manufacturing. Thin film PV cells require very little silicon as compared to crystalline PV cells. The technical benefits of thin film PV, such as flexibility and better performance in low light conditions are other reasons for rapid growth of the market.

The market is segmented and forecast based on type of thin film PV cells and modules, such as amorphous silicon (a-Si), cadmium telluride (CdTe), copper indium diselenide/copper indium gallium diselenide (CIS/CIGS), and others.

Market share analysis, by revenue of the leading companies, is also included in the report. The market share analysis of these key players are arrived at, based on key facts, annual financial information, and interviews with key opinion leaders, such as CEOs, directors, and marketing executives.
