A DNA microarray is a collection of microscopic DNA spots attached to a solid surface. It is the high throughput technology used to measure the expression levels of genes. There are mainly two main types of DNA microarray in use today- oligonucleotide- based arrays and cDNA- based array.

 The emerging technologies in this space include optical microarray technology and microfluidic system. Optical microarray is not microarrays, but involves the immobilization of probes on optical beads that have different combination of fluorescent dyes on them. Owing to these advantages, the uptake of optical microarray technology is estimated to witness high growth during the forecast period.
