Global Turbocharger Market

A turbocharger is a turbine driven force induction device that increases an engine’s efficiency and power by forcing extra air into the combustion chamber utilizing the heat energy of exhaust gases. This increased amount of air over naturally aspirated air into the combustion chamber increases proportionately more fuel than atmospheric pressure alone can do into each cylinder of the engine there by boosting up its performance. The three basic technologies used by the turbochargers are: variable geometry turbochargers (VGT), Wastegate turbochargers and twin turbo. Each of these technologies have their own benefits, VGT is widely used in the passenger cars whereas Wastegate turbo is widely used in commercial vehicles. The twin turbochargers have not gained popularity however their use is increasing and it is anticipated to gain manufacturers preference globally. A turbocharged engine offers many advantages such as increased power output, increased power to weight ratio, vehicle efficiency and also helps in engine downsizing.

Turbochargers have gained popularity globally in last few years; Europe will remain the largest turbocharger market for next five years, the region contributes to half of the turbocharger market share owing to the diesel passenger cars gaining consumer preference making Europe largest diesel passenger cars market followed by Asia-Pacific and North America slowly emerging in the use of diesel as automobile fuel. Stringent carbon emission norms, fuel economy standards, EU-27 carbon emission targets, engine downsizing trend and increasing passenger vehicle market globally are some of the drivers of the global automotive turbocharger market. Growing trend of diesel passenger cars in Asia-Pacific and North America and turbo charging of large engine are the opportunities and future driver of global turbocharger market.
